On August 26, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov has opened the new metro line M3 of Sofia. The 7.8 kilometer M3 line has eight stations. A consortium of Doğuş, Via Construct and Ultrastroy did the construction.
Railway Gazzette writes that the PM praised the new metro line and said ‘Our metro is the most beautiful and cheapest in Europe’, ‘underground city providing easy connections between all points of Sofia’, and was built to be equal in quality to elsewhere in Europe, but at ‘a much lower price’.
A 3.8km extension is under construction and will be ready next year writes the publication with a further 3km third stage and 6km fourth stage extensions planned to bring the route to 21km with 21 stations.
