Elon Musk might just be moving The Boring Company to Texas from California

The Boring Company tweet over Austin

I had written before in this group that The Boring Company had been advertising quite a number of job vacancies for Austin, Texas in my post titled `What is brewing in Austin? Elon Musk's The Boring Company hires for Austin. The hirings coupled with The Boring Company's enigmatic tweet (above) suggested that it was going to pitch for Austin's Capital Rail project.

There are now rumors that The Boring Company may have more bigger plans about Austin. Like moving its headquarters there. According to an article published in Austin Business Journal, The Boring Company got a large space in an industrial park in Pflugerville, a small town located about 14 miles northeast of downtown Austin. The publication writes the company has filed a 'Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for renovation work at 15709 Impact Way in Pflugerville'.

The Boring Company is currently headquartered in Hawthorne, California. Elon Musk is known to have developed a distaste for California after some Covid-19 lockdown disputes between the Palo Alto based Tesla the local authorities. He had threatened to move Tesla headquarters to Texas or Nevada. Musk's car company Tesla is building its new factory not in California, but in Texas.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Musk had publicly criticized the state authorities for being complacent and acting entitled, in his words: “If a team has been winning for too long, they do tend to get a little complacent, a little entitled and then they don’t win the championship anymore,” he said. “California has been winning for too long.”

Recently he had personally moved from California to Texas. Most likely because of California's new laws for extra taxing highly paid executives.

The interesting thing is, the new The Boring Company site Pflugerville is a mere 16 miles away from the new car factory that Tesla is building -also- near Austin.
