B92 writes Croatia's road operating company Autocesta Zagreb-Macelj begin with necessary work for extension of 3,7 kilometers for Đurmanec-Macelj highway.

Work is only 3,7 kilometers but it is high-cost work. Only 500 meters of 3,7km is normal road. The remaining is high cost work with viaducts and a new tube 1,740 meters long for tunnel Sveta tri kralja. A separate service tunnel excavated 1400 meters of and 600 meters more also will be excavated.

When new tube construction finishes traffic will be moved here and the old tube will be maintained and upgraded.

Highway is owned by Croatian government (49%) and Pyhrn Concession Holding (a company of Austrian construction company Strabag). Initially Strabag insisted on 10 year concession extension for new work. It was a too long extension. In the end, now it is built without concession extension because European Union financed the work.

The road is part of European Union corridor X (Nuremberg - Graz - Maribor - Zagreb).
