Prolongacíon tunnel in Mérida has been flooded with water every year. The 300 meters long underpass in Yucatán capital city has now structural damage because of water damage.

The tunnel was supposed to serve 47000 cars a day and help solve Mérida's traffic congestion. Now most of its is filled with water. Pumps could not cope with the rainwater.

Newspaper says there are cracks in parts of 4 lane road tunnel. But 60% is "salvageable".

They "dug the tunnel too close to the water table". Well done tunnel designers!
