11,000 tonne tunnel to be installed on the railway in first for UK engineering
The structure, which weighs more than the Eiffel Tower, is being installed in a painstaking nine-day operation as part of the £1.2bn upgrade of the East Coast Main Line. Work to install a new tunnel under the east coast mainline just north of Peterborough has started as part of the continuing upgrade of the line.
