Colombia awards USD220Million contracts for Toyo Tunnel access roads with 11 tunnels

    For the tender opened last December, Colombian National Highways Institute (INVÍAS) awarded the contracts worth COL$808.1 billion (USD220Million) for Túnel Guillermo Gaviria Echeverri (Toyo Tunnel) access roads. The work consists of 13 vehicular bridges, 12.5 km of open-air track, 11 tunnels and 4 false tunnels that will be built over 19.4 kilometers.

    The Module 1 of the tendered work has been awarded to Construcciones el Cóndor SA for 418.2 billions. The Module 2 of the work has been awarded to consortium Vías Colombia 061 for 389.9 billions.

    In addition, in a second stage, the public tender will be held for the acquisition, installation and operation of the electromechanical equipment. 

    These access works to the Guillermo Gaviria Echeverri tunnel represent better connectivity between the center of the country and the Atlantic Coast. The Toyo Tunnel is It is the longest highway tunnel in America with a total of 9.73 kilometers.

    A few days ago, the Secretariat of Infrastructure of the Government of Antioquia reported that the excavation of Túnel del Toyo (Túnel Guillermo Gaviria Echeverri) reached 50% and 4.865 kilometers already excavated.
