CNAIR will soon make important announcements for the lots 2 and 3 of Sibiu - Pitești highway, according to Ora de Sibiu. CNAIR is Romanian National Company for Road Infrastructure Management.

For lot 2 (Boița Cornetu) 11 bids and for lot 3 (Cornetu- Tigveni) 15 bids announced. 

Lot 2 is mainly roads but the Lot 3 has a tunnel with two tubes each 1.7 km long but also additional work roads, ecoducts etc. For lot 2 evaluation will finish by April 16 and for lot 3 by April 20.

In addition for the 41-kilometer section of the Transylvania Highway, Poarta Sălajului - Zalău - Nușfalău evaluation should be completed by April 19. This section is important. It includes the Meseș Tunnel. Meseș tunnel tunnel will be 2.4 km-long. In each direction will have two lanes. It  will cross the Meseş Mountains at an altitude of 400 meters, near the city of Zalău. 12 Bidders came up for this section.

In this section CNAIR has some very limiting requirements.  CNAIR want companies with experience in tunnels made in the European Union which must be of at least one billion euros in turnover. There is fear that this will cause only big and expensive European companies will be selected and this will cost much money to Romanian and EU taxpayers.
