If reelected, Montreal's mayor Plante promises $500 investment for REM de l’Est light-rail project, paving the way for tunneling

As there are less than two weeks for the upcoming elections, the incumbent mayor Valérie Plante promises to invest  $500 million in the REM de l’Est light-rail project, if she is reelected. Valérie Plante had been elected into office on November 5, 2017, and sworn in on November 16 2017. She is the first female mayor of the city of Montreal.

If ever materializes, Plante's promise of $500m is very important for the project to be taken underground. The private consortium of CDPQ Infra plans to build the part of the 32km long track over the ground. On the other hand, the citizens and the city insist on construction of tunnels.
