The Municipality of Madrid starts with the extension works on Line 3 of the Villaverde Alto Metro to El Casar, in Getafe and releases the information about the works ahead.
The expected completion time of 22 months. This measure will benefit 1.1 million users from Getafe and the surrounding municipalities will see improved connection with the region's metropolitan area.
The action consists of the 2.6-kilometre extension of Line 3, which will allow it to be connected with Suburban Line 12 and, at the same time, with the Renfe Cercanías C-3, which links Aranjuez with Atocha. In this way, El Casar will become the second MetroSur connection with the capital, and it will be an intermodal area that will link Metro lines 3 and 12, and the Cercanías service.
“The project, which has a budget of almost 92 million euros, will provide a new alternative to enter the metropolitan area of the city of Madrid, not only for the residents of Getafe, but also for the rest of the large municipalities in the southern zone. such as Alcorcón, Móstoles, Fuenlabrada and Leganés, which currently can only do so through MetroSur, at the Puerta del Sur station”, indicated the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, David Pérez.
The Municipality of Madrid begins this action with the works of phase 1, which consist of the adaptation of accesses for machinery and trucks, perimeter fencing of the area, raising curbs and cobblestones of the car park, diversion of affected services such as irrigation and lighting, dismantling of signs and luminaires and placement of the construction advertising poster.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has informed the Getafe City Council of the occupation of the station car park with the aim of minimizing inconvenience to residents, who will have pedestrian access to the new site at all times and around 75 parking spaces .
Between the months of May and June, the civil works of the station, the cover slab and the excavation under the slab, will begin, and in July the excavation of the tunnel will begin.
The El Casar Station will be 130 meters long and 34 meters wide, with a concrete slab roof. The lobby and platform levels will be 90 meters long, 4.5 meters wide and 14 meters deep at street level. Access will be through six escalators, three fixed and three elevators.
Greater intermodality
The extension of Metro line 3 will in turn allow the different urban and interurban bus lines in Getafe to be reordered, to facilitate intermodality in the municipality itself. It will also improve its connectivity, linked to its expansion to the east, with the Los Molinos urban development, which is in full swing.
The El Casar station will have a surface car park with more than 500 spaces that will be attached to the Aparca-T car park network, free for those users who use public transport. In the same way, there will be a connection with the Cercanías network through the C-3 at El Casar station; C-4 and C-5 at the Villaverde Alto station; urban buses on lines 3 and 4 in the city of Getafe; the intercity 442 and 447; taxi service; electric bicycles and scooters.
