Prague Public Transit Company denies the reports that the construction of Metro D is endangered

DPP ('Prague Public Transit Company' or ' Dopravní podnik hl. m. Prahy' in Czech language) reacts to press reports that a conflict with the contractor would endanger the project. Prague's planned Metro D has on its way in total ten stations. DPP have released on 28 March the following press release:

The construction of metro D is not endangered, DPP strongly opposes the statements from today's article MF Dnes

March 28, 2022

Prague, March 28, 2022 - Dopravní podnik hl. The City of Prague (DPP) strongly opposes the statements published today by MF Dnes in an article about metro D. The construction of metro D is not endangered. DPP has all the necessary valid permits, the contractors and the company Inženýring dopravních staveb a.s. (IDS) took over the calls to start construction. The construction of metro D would be endangered only if IDS wanted to withdraw from the contract with DPP for the technical supervision of the investor himself. The DPP is not currently considering such a step. Given that the IDS is taking the necessary steps to start construction after receiving the call, it does not seem that it would like to lose its financial reward and withdraw from the contract itself. The DPP therefore considers the article in MF Dnes to be a discreet discredit.

Since January 2010, DPP has had a contract with IDS for the technical supervision of the investor for the construction of metro D. According to this contract, IDS was to obtain a valid building permit for the entire metro line D, ie all 10 stations, within three years of its signing. investors technical Supervision. DPP finally obtained a valid building permit for the first section of the D Pankrác - Nové Dvory metro station (only 5 stations) on Thursday last week, ie more than 9 years after it was to be provided by IDS under the contract. DPP therefore refused to pay for some of the declared activities of IDS, which it was supposed to provide in the past under the contract, but this did not happen.

"DPP as a city company must act with due diligence. We cannot reimburse any supplier for activities or work that he has not done at all. This is in fundamental conflict with the law and ethics. We will reimburse them if IDS provides us with credible statements of work performed, which it refuses. From the beginning, we have been trying to find a solution, despite our intensive efforts and several rounds of negotiations, but so far without success. However, IDS has now evidently decided to abuse the beginning of the construction of one of the largest and most important investments in Prague, and to draw media attention to the problem it caused by its own inaction. We consider the article, which was published by MF Dnes, and which is probably also being prepared in the weekly Hrot, because we received almost identical questions from MF Dnes, only as an attempt to discredit DPP and the construction of metro D. that if the DPP does not pay, it will publicize the matter. However, DPP will not be intimidated by these practices of the 1990s, or are common in the more eastern countries, "said Petr Witowski, Chairman of the Board and CEO of DPP.

If IDS decides to withdraw from the contract for the technical supervision of the investor, DPP will respect this. In such a case, DPP will immediately compete with a new supplier of these services under new conditions. DPP is also ready for this eventuality.
