Świną tunnel will be completed and operational in the second quarter of 2023

    Teodor Adamczyk

The construction of the Świną tunnel in Świnoujście will be completed at the end of 2022 and later after the installation of tunnel management system and other systems, it will enter the operation between May and June in 2023. TVN24 quotes Barbara Michalska, Deputy Mayor of Świnoujście for this information.

The operation date is a few months delayed than the original plans, which is normal if we remember that everything was shut down during the height of pandemic. Because early days and the worst days of the pandemic coincided with the beginning of the construction. When we think of this, the constructors PORR and GÜLERMAK did great job.

Tunnel will connect largest two islands of City of Świnoujście to each other. Uznam and Wolin. The city is located on 44 islands. Tunnel will be the longest underwater tunnel in Poland.

Now the tunnel works 60% completed with constructors working on emergency exits etc. The main tunnel  which is 1484 metre long already bored with a CREG TBM in last September. With non-TBM excavated tunnels, the complete tunnel length is 1,780 meters long.
