Kolkata Tunnel causing houses collapse: Water leak returns after early success,

  • Pedro M.
    By Pedro M.

I said it in another thread and I am saying it here:

This supposed 'aquifer' is surely an excure. The problem is one or more of these (tick as appropriate)

    • Inadequate project preparation (inadequate geological surveys, so on)
    • Inadequate EPB TBM operation (personnel not masters of operating Earth Pressure Balance Tunnel Boring Machine)
    • Inadequate project management (team too much under political or bonus pressure to advance fast, therefore cutting corners, ignoring warnings)
    • Technical shortcomings of the Tunnel Boring Machine

Aquifer is an easy excuse. "It is the nature bro!". Apparently here they moved too fast, they excavated too much earth without realising that it is not the excavated earth but the earth flowing under the houses flowing in!

I feel sorry for poor people in these houses.

As i knew that TBM at that time was under sandy strata with water bearing table, tailskin brushes got damaged but TBM was advancing, water and grout  was ingress into tunnel through brushes, annular gap could not filled.
