Howard County, Maryland executive Calvin Ball announced that the county has secured a $75 million federal loan to build a tunnel that will carry water away from Main Street and into the Patapsco River, minimizing flood risk in historic Ellicott City. The 18-foot in diameter and 5000-foot in length tunnel will convey water away from Main Street and into the Patapsco River.

Total project cost is $167 million. A Tunnel Boring Machine will be used for the tunnel construction. 50-Feet a day progress is expected with the excavation, an official says. Works is expected to stay later this year in fall.
