Contractor Kolektor has broken through the Pekel Railway Tunnel. Tunnel has been excavated using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM). It is part of the upgrade of railway line between Maribor and Šentilje

300 Million Euro costing project adds a second track to the existing railway between Maribor and Šentilje.  The new Pekel tunnel is 1530 meter long and it also has a rescue tunnel. The cost of the tunnel together with the 900 meter long Pesnica viaduct is given as 101 million euro.

Tunnel is expected to be operational end of 2023.
