Tunnel boring machine 1 has successfully penetrated the south side wall of Thamrin Station on Monday, August 15, 2022. TBM 1 built a 560-meter southbound tunnel from Bundaran HI Station to Thamrin Station. This construction work will take about six months from February 2022 to August 2022. Furthermore, TBM 1 will make a U-turn at the southern shaft point of Thamrin Station to continue construction of the northbound tunnel back to the HI Roundabout Station.

This breakthrough is one of the milestones of the construction work of MRT Jakarta phase 2A, particularly CP 201 which includes the construction of Thamrin and Monas Stations. So far, the work of CP 201 has reached 42.31 percent with a number of works such as excavation and casting of the base slab at Monas Station, casting of columns and wall structures of the Monas substation (Receiving substation/RSS), and improvement of soil quality (jet grout) at Thamrin Station, installation of traffic decking on the south side of Thamrin Station, and others. PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) is still optimistic that the target for completion of CP 201 in March 2025 will be achieved.

Previously, on July 29, 2022, TBM-2 which built a tunnel from Monas Station to Thamrin Station had successfully penetrated the north shaft wall of Thamrin Station and was in the u-turn process to move to the northbound side to build a tunnel back to Monas Station with a length of 385 meters. The plan, the tunnel will be done within four months.

In the construction of the CP 201, two boring machines were used, namely TBM-1 and TBM-2. TBM-1 will build southbound and northbound tunnels connecting the HI and Thamrin roundabout stations; and TBM-2 which builds southbound and northbound tunnels connecting Monas and Thamrin Stations. After that, the two TBMs will jointly build southbound and northbound tunnels connecting Monas and Harmoni Stations. After that, each drilling machine will build one tunnel line from Monas Station to Harmoni Station.
