Russia: Ufa Eastern Exit tunnel construction will get a new funding

Until the end of 2023, about 3.2 billion rubles are still needed from the federal budget to complete the construction of Ufa Eastern Exit tunnel construction. 1.3 billion of it will come this year and the documents already signed.

Ufa city centre road tunnel is 60 metres under the gound. 1245 metres long.  It's purpose is to connect the highways M-5 Ural and M-7 Volga to lighten the traffic in this part of Russia.

Original construction started in 1992. But soon construction faced many problems. One of them was a nearby river. The unstable ground made construction very difficult. There was only 20 metres progress in a month. Finally construction suspended in 2007. Project lied without work for 13 years.

Then in 2020 In addition to the main tunnel, two more parallel running road tunnels has been added to the project and work has been assigned to a foreign contractor. Turkish company Limak-lead “Limakmaraşavtodarogi”, a consortium of Turkish company Limak and Marashstroy. 50% of the work already completed and it may be completed a year ahead of schedule recently announced.It will finish in 2023.

The Eastern Exit is being built as part of a concession agreement between Bashkir Concession Company LLC (part of VTB Infrastructure Holding) and the Republic of Bashkortostan. The eastern exit will connect the central part of Ufa with the M-5 Ural federal highway.
