Turkish company Cengiz has reached an important point in the construction of the tunnel with a breakthrough. The works was continuing for 3,5 years.

The second Karavanke tunnel connects Slovenia with Austria, like the first one. Each country started excavating from their end. Excavation started very late on Slovenian part because of tender process. The first tender won by Cengiz was cancelled after loosing bidders appealed. The second tender was also won by Cengiz but at a higher price, almost 10 million euros more! In the delayed and repeated tender process, Slovenia lost 2 years and 10 million euros.
