Ghella announces the completion of the tunnelling for the western underground segment of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE). Over the past two years, tunnel boring machines (TBMs) Rexy and Renny have successfully excavated 6.3 kilometres of twin tunnels, stretching from Renforth Drive to west of Scarlett Road.

The ECWE project is a significant 9.2-kilometre extension of the Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit line, which will run from the future Mount Dennis station to Renforth Drive. The system will have connections to several local and regional transit services, including Union Pearson Express and Kitchener GO train lines, GO bus routes, and local TTC and Mississauga MiWay bus services. Plans are also being explored to connect ECWE to Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The new line will provide fast, convenient travel options and offset emissions to support sustainable growth across the region. By 2041, the extension will see close to 70,000 daily rides and bring 37,500 more people within walking distance to transit.
