Het Laatste Nieuws reports that the city of Leuven in Brabant region of Belgium study the prospect of a road tunnel in the Leuven North project. The purpose of the tunnel is to relieve the city of the road freight transport. Such a tunnel will also boost the proposed science park on the Eenmeilaan in Leuven Noord.

The brewery concern AB InBev is also interested in the tunnel. Now the beer brewery trucks still have to use between the Aarschotsesteenweg and the E314.

The city is still to investigate the feasibility of the tunnel, because the proposed route lies under the railroad trucks. Technical feasibility is yet to be investigated. Also proposed is to extend the tunnel to Leuven Nord station and to have also a bicycle path for cyclists. Both truck road and bicycle track is planned in the same tube with a clear separation. It is not clear how cyclists will be protected from harmful exhaust gases of trucks.
