The controversial St. Julian’s – Pembroke road network upgrade with the 4 new tunnels, has had its application suspended pending the completion of certain studies reports Maltese journal 'Independent'.

Infrastructure Malta says the suspension has nothing to do with the complains against the Pembroke tunnel project but rather to accommodate the preparation of the Planning Authority's request for plans of technical studies. To be able to prepare them, Infrastructure Malta asked for the suspension, saying that the project is urgently needed as part of Malta’s arterial road network and of the EU’s TEN-T network and part of the Malta Transport Master Plan 2025.
