Not Everyone is Excited about Stuttgart's North East Tunnel Proposal
The tunnel has been proposed a tunnel in the area of Stuttgart's planned north-east ring between Kornwestheim and Oeffingen. On Tuesday, the architect Hermann Grub and the industrialist Rüdiger Stihl presented a feasibility study for a north-east ring with a tunnel construction. The proposal is based on the Landscape Model North-East Ring initiative with the companies Stihl, Trumpf, Lapp and Bosch. The planning office Obermeyer put the costs for this at 1.2 billion euros.
Critics say the proposal did not take into account the new traffic and it is insufficient to handle the traffc. Also the farmers are concerned that the construction of the tunnel will mean waste of land deemed some of the most fertile in Central Europe. There are also concerns how the proposal fits into the wider transportation.
@Adrian The proposed route is proposed as an alternative to the 11,5 km long over ground route connection, also a proposal. There is environmental opposition to it and also because loss of agricultural land. The alternative proposal with tunnels is 10,7 km long but not all tunnels. One is not sure about the length of tunnel, I read here and there as `a couple of kilometers`. I think it is Drill and Blast is proposed. I have not heard any TBM mentioned anywhere.
