Maglev trains (magnetic levitation) is a new railway technology whereby while moving trains loose physical contact with the rails and they move over a cushion of magnetic field. This allows them speeds to 400 kilometer per hour. Germany is the country which made this technology operation ready and they built one on Shanghai China (see above a Maglev train in Shanghai --image by Alex Needham, wikimedia commons).
It is more proven technology than hyperloop.
Now India can become the second maglev operative country with a project proposal over a 55 km route between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Panvel.
The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) proposes the project on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. A Swiss-based company, SwissRapide AG, in partnership with an Indian company is said to have interest in the project.
