Transurban: West Gate Tunnel project delayed by a year

Road toll operator Transurban tells its investors that the Melbourne's West Gate Tunnel project is already one year delayed. The delay will naturally increase by every passing day. The $6.7 billion  project was scheduled to start in July 2019 and finish by 2022. A dispute with the contractors over who would pick the bill for the handling of the contaminated soil resulted in contractors bailing out of the project.

Meanwhile the Victorian government seems to be putting pressure on Transurban to resolve the dispute with the contractors and to get on with the construction. ABC quoted Minister for Transport Infrastructure Jacinta Allan reminding Transurban the terms of the government contract at a press conference:

"We've made it clear we intend to hold Transurban to that contract and what's contained in that contract is that for every day that this project is not completed beyond 2022, Transurban lose millions of dollars".

This is perhaps as clear as threats come from Australian politicians.
