Future of Severomuisky-2 tunnel is unknown after suicide of financer Dmitry Bosov

    Russian businessman Dmitry Bosov, the creator and co-owner of the Sibanthracite group and Vostokugol management company killed himself on May 6. According to Forbes he was the 86th richest man in Russia with 86th with a fortune of $ 1.1 billion. Sibanthracite is the world’s leader in the export of ultra high grade anthracite and the largest producer of metallurgical coal in Russia.

    Sibanthracit planned to double its coal production and the construction project of the Severomuisky 2 tunnel was part of it.  Tunnel was necessary to increase the export of Russian coal to the east. Sibanthracit group had offered to fully privately finance for 60 billion rubles the construction of the Severomuisky 2 tunnel without any state funding.

    It is not certain to known why Mr Bosov committed suicide. gorodfinansov .ru relates the suicide of Dmitry Bosov with the detention of the businessman Anatoly Bykov in Krasnoyarsk. Both businessmen are participants of the “aluminum wars” of the nineties. Among the hypotheses discussed is another wave of redistribution of the aluminum market and Bosov’s alleged participation as a witness in criminal cases against Bykov. 

    In the following turmoil, it is not realistic Bosov's family will have time to look into tunnel project.
