On May 12, Chile's SEA (environmental evaluation service) will vote on the environmental impact study for the US$291mn Lo Ruiz tunnel. The EIS had been submitted by highway company Autopista Central two years ago.

The tunnel is 1.47 kilometer long. Together with the access roads the total length of road is is 5.8 kilometer.
