Mayor César Asenjo of the city of Valdivia in the Los Ríos region of Chile says the the economic viability of the Valdivia sub-river tunnel will be confirmed within the next two years.

On 14 May, the Government had announced that the project proposal had passed the technical-economic analysis carried out by the Ministry of Social Development and Family and the project had gained the favorable recommendation, so called RS. The project of building a sub-water tunnel between the Las Mulatas and Torobayo on the Valdivia river had been in the eyesight of government since the end of 2018. With the favorable recommendation it now reaches the next stage.

Now Mayor Asenjo gives his support to the government announcement. He says the detailed engineering consultancy is a control milestone.

Currently connectivity across the river is done by barge as delays on the Cau Cau bridge continue.
