East-West Metro work restarted below Bowbazar
In a much documented disaster, East-West Metro boring had been stalling for months after "the TBM hit an aquifier". Subsequently the TBM Chundee had been lost to the depths of underground mud and later replaced by a new TBM 'Urvi'. But because of COVID-19, it was not possible to restart boring in most efficient way. But on Friday the 19th, East-West Metro work boring in on again.

Kolkata East-West Metro Milestone: The new TBM (Urvi) reached yesterday (Saturday) the BB Ganguly Street leaving behind the most dangerous neighbourhood with old and fragile buildings.
KMRC started building the shafts to take out East-West Metro Line Tunnel Boring Machines.
A solid sign that tunnelling for Kolkata's East - West line is progressing well.
Sources quote the tunnel boring machine ‘Chandi’ which became defunct after it hit an aquifer on 31 August 2019 will also be raised via the new shaft being built.
Only to add. That shaft is not only used for taking out the TBM. KMRCL will use the shaft also to pump out the water injected to create a counter-force against the aquifer.
