Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) announces that the infrastructure company HNTB has been selected to manage the process of West Seattle Bridge Replacement process. This process includes deciding whether to repair the existing bridge or replace it it with a various bridge options or an immersed tunnel. According to the government site, the selection has been done through a Request for Qualifications process.
Proponents of the immersed tunnel option have been accusing SDOT trying to make the tunnel option look less attractive via their cost/benefit studies.
