Más Madrid ("more Madrid"), a municipal group in Madrid has accused the Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida Navasqüés of lying over his promise of the A-5 Tunnel.

In June 2019, the Madrid City Council had decided the cheap option for the tunnel. According to plan, the existing A-5 road will be buried as tunnel at a cost of 198 million euro, instead of boring a tunnel with a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) which would cost 776 million euros.

Más Madrid says it is impossible to finish the project within the term of the current Mayor and also they fear the cost will more than triple up to 600 million euro even with the cheap "fake tunnel" option. According to Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida Navasqüés' political party Partido Popular, works would start in 2021 and finish 2023.
