Another tunnel construction to start on Spain's Canary Islands. In addition to various tunnels being built on Gran Canaria island, the biggest of the islands Tenerife will also start the construction of an important tunnel.

The construction of the 5.1 kilometer tunnel in Erjos will start. It will be the longest tunnel in the Canarias and one of the longest in Spain. The tunnel will go through the Teno massif and connect the south and the north of the island. Current travel time of 25-35 minutes between Santiago del Teide to El Tanque will decrease to 10 minutes.

The construction work will be done by the joint venture of FCC, El Silbo and Syocsa-Inarsa. It was awarded in 2019.
