PM Modi inaugurates Atal Tunnel in Rohtang
Indian Prime Minister Modi has inaugurated the strategically important Atal Tunnel in Rohtang.
Atal Tunnel is a road tunnel built under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas on the Leh-Manali Highway in Himachal Pradesh, India. At 9.02 km length, it is the longest tunnel above 10,000 feet in the world and is named after former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The tunnel makes all-season road access to strategically important areas of Ladakh and the remote Lahaul-Spiti valley.

The electromechanical works of the Atal Tunnel in Rohtang was undertaken by a Turkish firm Savronik. It is a spin-off from construction company STFA.
China's state media downplays the significance of the Atal Tunnel in Rohtang. Global times claims that "Atal Tunnel to have limited benefit to India in wartime" and "The Chinese People's Liberation Army has means to make this tunnel unserviceable".
China is clearly irritated by India's infrastructure push on the border areas.
