In Russia Bering Strait railroad tunnel construction in focus after A2A project approval in US

    Bogdan A. Dašić

President Trump approved A2A project which links railroad networks of Alaska and Canada.

Now in Russia people talk why not extend it to Russia via a railroad tunnel under Bering strait? Then you have incredible logistics railway from North America to all the way to China. The strait is only 85 km wide and 55 meters deep. Sure a tunnel will be expensive. But compared to what? When you consider the benefits? Also the the construction cost of the A2A project approved by Trump is not cheap either. For 2,400 km it would cost US $22 billion.

Problem with Bering tunnel is USA may not like such a link to China. Russia may not like exposure to its main enemy.
