Lonato Tunnel Boring Started

    On November 14, the Earth Pressure Balance Tunnel Boring Machine "Martina" has started boring the Lonato Tunnel. The tunnel is an important part of the Milano - Venezia high speed railway.

    The Lonato Tunnel has a length of 4,75 kilometre for each of the two tubes. The tunnel has a diameter of 8,80m. Each 2m-long ring has 6 segments in it and has a thickness of 45cm.

    When the boring of the first tube is completed and breaktirhough at Verona entrance the EPB-TBM will be disassembled and will be brought to Milano entrance for boring the second tunnel.

    The "High Speed/High Capacity Milano-Verona Railway Line (Brescia East-Verona section) and related soil consolidation work from chainage 115+990 to chainage 120+772" has been awarded to SELI Overseas S.p.A with a contract amount of €204.983.361,21.

    Construction started on 28 August 2020 and estimated completion date is somewhere in August 2023.
