Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-North East Institute of Science and Technology (CSIR-NEIST) in Jorhat will do the geophysical investigation of Brahmaputra tunnel. The main contractor for the geophysical study is American Louis Berger.

The strategic tunnel will be the first sub-water tunnel of India. It will be built under the Brahmaputra river which flows from Tibet to India and to Bangladesh. It will have 4 lanes. It has strategic importance for India amid Chinese aggression along our borders in recent years. It should not be forgotten that Tibet is a country under China's occupation.
