Construction of the 2nd Učka Tunnel started on Tuesday 15 December. Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković attended ceremony.

Second tube requires €197 million investment. Work includes adding additional one lane in each direction on Istrian Y motorways. Plus second tube of  Učka Tunnel. 

Istrian Y motorways and Učka Tunnel operated by BINA Istra company. On basis of BOT Build-Operate-Translate. Since 1995. To build second tube and additional lanes, Croation government made a new agreement with BINA Istra. Consession extended to 2039. This was approved by European Commission.

Prime minister thanked French company Bouygues for being good partner.

BINA Istra has complex partnership:

BINA Fincom (67%)  Bouygues ownes also 50.7% of this company.

Bouygues (16%) Direct ownership

Hrvatske autoceste (14.8%)

Istarska autocesta (2.2%)

French company Bouygues in total controls 49.969% of consession compaby BINA Istra.
