On 27 January, Lauderdale's mayor Trantalis has tweeted 'I had another productive conversation with @elonmusk's @boringcompanytoday about building a train tunnel through downtown #FortLauderdale. Broward Vice Mayor @Michaeludinejoined me for this discussion. #tunnelvision 1/'.

The news already in circulation was that Elon Musk's The Boring Company had been canvassing for a new tunneling project in Florida to replicate their success in Las Vegas (see the post Elon Musk now eyes Miami to build an underground transportation network). 

Obviously TBC is now also in contact with Lauderdale. Most likely the parties are in the very early stages of talks. More like in 'getting acquainted' sort of talks. Teslarati, an Elon Musk ventures watcher gives a more detailed info than what Mayor Trantalis reveals in his tweet:
