Minister of Transport Knut Arild Hareide says the Ringeriksbanen will be prioritized in the National Transport Plan (NTP) for the period 2022–2033 which will be presented this spring. This is an important development. In official terms, it means this 40-kilometre extension of the Bergen Line from Hønefoss to Sandvika will be built.

Ringeriksbanen (literally Ringerike Line) is a high speed railway line connection between Oslo and Bergen. Unlike the current railway, it will be a more direct connection, as well as a high speed one. Importantly, it will have about 23km long high speed railway tunnel.

Construction may start as early as 2024, 2025, according to press news.
