Moscow City's official web site reports that the excavation of the left running tunnel of the connecting line between the Big Circle Line (BCL) and the Zamoskvoretskoye depot has begun. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Development Policy and Construction Andrey Bochkarev.
The tunnel will pass in loamy soils and watered sand under the Varshavskoe Shosse and Chongarsky Boulevard at a depth of five to 22 meters. “The Marina TBM with a diameter of six meters has begun driving the left running tunnel 777 meters long from the site located near the Zamoskvoretskoye depot to the dismantling shield chamber between the Kakhovskaya and Varshavskaya stations of the Big Circle Metro Line.
The construction of the Big Circle Line of the Moscow Metro is the world's largest metro construction project. The BCL will be 70 kilometers long. It will have 31 stations. In addition to transfers to the Moscow Central Diameters, the new ring will allow 11 transfers to other radial directions of the Moscow Railway, 19 transfers to the metro line and four transfers to the Moscow Central Circle.
