Colombian Vice President gives the green light to the Variante San Francisco - Mocoa project, key in the development of the south of the country.

The National Government will conclude, through the Invías, this strategic corridor, which includes the construction of 61 bridges and 11 tunnels, which will improve mobility to the center of the country. The work was awarded to the CM Putumayo Consortium, through the economic reactivation program Compromiso por Colombia. During the execution, more than 3,000 new jobs will be generated for the inhabitants of Putumayo and Nariño.

Colombia road infrastructure authority  Invías has released the information on April 22, 2021  that Vice President Marta Lucía Ramírez gave the green light -this Thursday- to the Variante San Francisco - Mocoa project, whose works will start in May, with the help of the National Highway Institute (INVÍAS). With this important road corridor, the development of the departments of Putumayo, Nariño and the entire southern region of the country will be promoted.

The project was awarded last March to the CM Putumayo Consortium, in charge of paving 8.3 km of open-air road, 11 tunnels totaling 2.8 kilometers and 61 bridges and 15.2-kilometer viaducts. This work is part of the Pathways for Legality and Reactivation of the Vision 2030 Regions, within the framework of the economic reactivation strategy.

"The San Francisco - Mocoa variant is the road infrastructure work most awaited by all Putumayans. Today we are here, on behalf of President Iván Duque Márquez, to open up this ambitious project. With this work we will generate 3,275 new jobs for the citizens of Putumayo and Nariño, especially for the indigenous population and women of the region, "said the Vice President, at the end of the tour, from the town of San Francisco to kilometer 5 of the project.

For his part, the entity's Technical Director, Guillermo Toro Acuña, stated that “the entity has been characterized by structuring and developing innovative projects that generate multiple benefits for the communities. This variant follows those guidelines of the national government, a historical fact for the mobility of southern Colombia ”, said the Director, adding,“ we are advancing in the economic reactivation of Colombia with projects that promote the development of the regions and their inhabitants, and the Variant San Francisco - Mocoa, attests to it.

The CM Putumayo Consortium is made up of Construcciones El Condor and Sociedad Constructora Meco. Together with the auditing contract, the project will have a total value of $ 1.2 billion, the second largest investment made by Invías through Compromiso por Colombia. The first is for the access roads to the Guillermo Gaviria Echeverri Tunnel and the acquisition, installation and operation of electromechanical equipment, with a total cost of $ 1.4 billion.

This variant reduces travel times and logistics operation expenses. This benefits the commercialization of local agricultural products.

    Other projects

In addition to the San Francisco - Mocoa Bypass, Invías, under the leadership of the Ministry of Transportation, will carry out paving and maintenance works in Putumayo along the San Miguel - Santana road, which makes up the Corredor del Sur and improves the connection road from Colombia to Ecuador, promoting the country's international trade.

$ 30,000 million are invested in this project and during its development 957 new jobs will be generated that benefit, mainly, the inhabitants of the department. The works were awarded to the Solarte Nacional de Construcciones company.

Thanks to Compromiso por Colombia, the entity will invest a total of $ 11.5 billion that will allow the development of 50 highway infrastructure projects and the generation of about 105,000 new jobs. With this strategy, the national government, the Ministry of Transportation and INVÍAS ratify their commitment to reach each of the regions with works that transform lives and generate equity and peace legally.
