EU is to invest EUR 101 mln out of its Cohesion Fund to upgrade the railtrack between Maribor and Šentilj, close to the border with Austria in the direction of Graz.
Work involves improvements to the Šentilj tunnel and the construction of the Pekel tunnel. The new railway line should be operational by February 2023.

It may look strange leaving a reply to my own entry. I wanted to separate news and comment.
When I see EU actions like this, I am so happy that Britain is leaving the EU. I do not recall EU financing any tunnel or rail work in UK. Why would we be obliged to pay for a Slovenian tunnel? Surely UK is paying for this scheme as #Brexit has not happened yet.
