A new Washington Metro study released on September 9 and titled 'Blue/Orange/Silver Capacity & Reliability Study' for extending the rail service recommends extending the Blue Line to National Harbor with a new station in Georgetown.

As a part of the preferred expansion option, a second Potamac River tunnel has been proposed. Metro board members will meet on Thursday to discuss the results of the 2-year-long study, reports The Washington Post.

The line extension is estimated to cost between 20 to 25 billion dollars.
