The design activities for the Panamá Metro Line 3 has already started. On 13 August, the Panamá Metro awarded for $9 million contract for the basic design and detail of the tunnel for the crossing of the Panamá Canal on line 3 of the Metro to Técnica y Proyectos, S.A. (Typsa) and Louis Berger LAC S. de R.L.  The reference price for the tender was $13million.

Radio Panamá quoted the engineer Agustín Arias of the Panama Metro saying "the aim is to streamline the design of the tunnel itself and have the parameters and elements that are required, to be able to order the TBM that would be carrying out the work,"
