The Roque Aldeano Forum, the citizen group for the La Aldea-Agaete highway, has asked the government to fulfill the commitment to take the tunnels into operation in the first half of 2022.

80% of the 4,120 meters of the total length has already been excavated. The consortium of Acciona, Ferrovial Agroman, Lopesan Asfaltos y Construcciones and Bitumex have been criticized in the past for the slow progress  Environmental permits to use explosives for excavation of the tunnels are said to have helped to improve the pace of the works.

The new road which will cost €152 million will shorten the travel time between La Aldea and Agaete to 12 minutes from current 25 minutes.
