- Minister Arcadi España presents the PMoMe, the strategic document that will define the future of metropolitan mobility in the Valencia area until 2035
- In its commitment to sustainable mobility and public transport, it proposes the creation of metropolitan bus-VAO corridors
- The aim of the PMoMe is a modal change: to increase by 220,000 the daily number of people using sustainable modes of transport
The Minister of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, Arcadi España, has announced, in the presentation of the Metropolitan Mobility Plan of Valencia, PMoMe, the execution of a second tunnel between Bailén and Alameda, a key work to improve frequencies in the metro service, which would also allow you to have a new station in the center of Valencia.
To this end, as indicated, "it is committed to improving the structure from Bailén to Alameda, to make the Alameda station the great point of interconnection of lines of the Metrovalencia network, as well as enabling more services and improving the overall frequency of the network. "
According to the Minister, "the Colón-Alameda section concentrates almost all traffic and we have reached the capacity limit of the network, which is why, in order to improve frequencies and extend the Metrovalencia network, it is necessary to give more capacity to this section, which is why a new tunnel is proposed with a new stop in the area of Valencia City Council ".
It is also proposed to extend the Riba-roja de Túria line with the arrival of this line, again, to the town center of the municipality, as well as the extension of the metro network to the west corridor of the 'Horta, connecting the municipalities of Xirivella, Alaquàs, Aldaia and Barri del Cristo through a new metro service.
VAO bus lanes
In its commitment to sustainable mobility and public transport, the PMoMe proposes the creation of metropolitan bus-VAO corridors, such as the CV35, the A3, the V21 and the V31. In addition to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of public transportation, these lanes help reduce noise pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy consumption.
The lane proposed in the CV35 will start in Valencia and end in Eliana and in the case of the V21 will also start in Valencia and end in the industrial environment of Albuixech. As for the A3, the lane will run from the A7 axis to Valencia, while the V31 will link Silla and Valencia.
Passing tunnel and tariff integration
The PMoMe is committed to the execution of the access channel, the passing tunnel, as well as the construction of the Parc Central station. The new structure would allow the Aragón station to become a major metro-Rodalia intermodal station, the creation of a new station next to the universities, on Avinguda de Tarongers, as well as the enhancement of the Font de St. Louis.
In this regard, the Minister recalled that this new year will enter into force the tariff integration that includes, in a single ticket, the public transport services of Metrovalencia, MetroBus, EMT and Renfe, with the aim of "promoting transport efficient, competitive and simple, with this goal, there will also be a zonal simplification to make metropolitan transport easier, easier and cheaper, with a drop in prices of between 11% and 55%."
220,000 users of sustainable transport
The PMoMe is the strategic document that will define the future of metropolitan mobility until 2035 and, as Arcadi España has pointed out, "is the next step in the Generalitat's commitment to promoting sustainable mobility and ways of public transport ".
In short, according to the head of Public Works, "the goal is modal shift, more public transport and cycling as a result of the implementation of the PMoMe; seeks to increase by 220,000 the number of people who use daily sustainable ways to get around the metropolitan area of Valencia ".
A total of 4,878,430 daily journeys are made in the metropolitan area of Valencia, most of which are already sustainable. However, as the councilor pointed out, for distances of more than 10 km, almost 80% of journeys are made by private vehicle. This means that a significant part of the more than 850,000 trips to and from the city a day are made by private vehicle.
In this scenario, the PMoMe proposes, in addition to the expansion of the metropolitan public transport network, a new metro-tram metropolitan transport system to bring efficient and massive public transport to metropolitan points with clear needs for improved connections. and, at the same time, improve services already existing.
Thus, the Generalitat plans to invest 400 million euros in four new metro-tram lines to strengthen public transport in the metropolitan area of Valencia in the northern corridor of the Horta region (Port de Sagunto-Sagunt- Rafelbunyol-Valencia), the north-west (Paterna-Burjassot-Technology Park-Valencia), the south of this region (Albal-Catarroja-Valencia) and the west (Xirivella-Alaquàs-Aldaia-Barri del Cristo) .
Also promote the creation of deterrent parking lots and the expansion of existing ones, especially in the Metrovalencia network, as well as improve the management of parking in urban areas and develop and consolidate metropolitan intermodality points, in order to promote and facilitate changes between modes of transportation.
It is also working for the active mobility of pedestrians and cyclists with the promotion of a new cycling infrastructure that allows the connection through clear and direct cycling routes with the city of Valencia. Of note is the consolidation of a metropolitan network that will include 1,047 km of interconnected cycle paths.
Institutional collaboration
Finally, the Minister pointed out that "the achievement of the objectives of the plan will involve an effort on the part of the different administrations". In total, the actions planned in the PMoMe will involve an investment of about 1,750 million euros by the Generalitat until 2035, with a budget of 72.5 million euros in new infrastructure and systems that promote the use of bicycles, as well as about 400 million euros in the implementation of the new metro-tram transport system. A total of 880 million euros will be invested in the new metro infrastructure in the metro network.
