Putin orders plans for construction of a railway route to the Barents Sea

Kremlin website publishes a document which writes Putin has ordered the government to come up with plans for a railway line to Indiga. With the global warming, the arctic waters of Russia became more navigable, therefore Russian government already has a plan to build in 2024 a deep water harbour in the village of Indiga.

Kremlin website document translates as:

"The President approved a list of instructions on some issues of transport development.

1. To the Government of the Russian Federation:

a) submit proposals for the creation of a railway route to the Barents Sea in the area of ​​the bay of the Indiga River;

b) ensure the development and approval of an action plan for the preparation and holding in 2024 of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the start of construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline. Deadline – May 10, 2022

Instructions regarding aspects of transport development

The President approved a list of instructions concerning some aspects of transport development.

The Government of the Russian Federation was instructed to submit proposals on building a railway line towards the Barents Sea coast in the area of the Indiga River cove, as well as to approve a schedule of events to celebrate in 2024 the 50th anniversary of the Baikal-Amur Mainline construction start.

The Government of the Russian Federation and the Russian Federation State Council commission on transport were instructed to introduce amendments to the Russian legislation to remove excessive requirements to designing, building and renovating regional and local airports with low air traffic, as well as to streamline operation regulations for such airports while ensuring that the conditions for passengers do not deteriorate."

Importance of this announcement is, it wil expedite  third stage of  BAM expansion for the purpose of exporting coal from the Elga deposit, among others. This might result in construction of new Kuznetsovsky Tunnel.
