USBRL Project scores breakthrough for the longest tunnel T-49

    A major milestone for the National Project, the Udhampur-Srinagar- Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL). The tunnelling crews have met between Sumber, Arpinchala stations. The T-49 tunnel is the longest tunnel of the project.

    To provide a perfect railway link to Kashmir, the USBRL project was declared as National Project in 2002.

    This engineering marvel rail link has 17 tunnels with a total length of 46.1 km and 23 bridges. The longest tunnel is 9.368 km.  All tunnels are being constructed using the New Austrian Tunneling method (NATM) and conventional method.

    The contractor for the tunnel is HCC (Hindustan Construction Company). The route is part of the Northern Railways rail network.
