13 Months to the arrival of the Tunnel Boring Machine and the teams to start the boring under the canal for the tunnel of Línea 3 del Metro (Panama Metro Line 3). This was reported by Radio Panama.

The construction of the 5.3 kilometer long tunnel under the Panama Canal, as well as the Panama Metro Line 3 is conducted by the HPH Consortium. The all-Korean consortium is made up of the companies Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., Posco Engineering & Construction Co. and Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd.

For crossing the Panama Canal, the tunnel option had won over a bridge option, most likely due to the height of the large ships passing through the tunnel.

Later for geophysical studies of the tunnel, the only bidder was the Geofísica Túnel L3 consortium, made up of the companies Monitoriza, S.A. and the Spanish company Geotecnia Hidrogeología y Medio Ambiente S.P.L. (Gehym) with a bidding price lower than the reference price ($163,177.40 versus $181,950.00).
