For background info, please read Tunnelling with 10 Tunnel Boring Machines: Expressions of Interest have opened for the longest tunnelling package in Victoria’s history.

Australia is a close ally of the USA against China. In large infrastructure projects, they seem to refrain from buying Chinese TBM. But they do not buy American-made TBM either. Mostly they go for the German Herrenknechts. Yet is the the USA that watches their back in that part of the world. Germany does nothing for them.

What can Australia's reasons be buying German TBMs instead of American?

Off course not. German politicians will push their products as skillfully as before, while the US politicians are busy with local politics.  I don't blame Australians anymore.

It is a bit prejudice to think they would buy German TBMs. But yes, they will probably do just that.
