Santo Domingo.- The Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (OPRET) reported today on new advances in the project of Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro that will reach Los Alcarrizos. There, in the coming days and under the supervision of the Estrella Engineering contractor, tunneling work will begin to interconnect the five stations that are part of the important work.

This is the completion of the transition portal that will give way to the tunnel and the viaduct. The elevated track, whose length will be approximately 6.5 kilometers, will lead the trains to and from the entrance of Los Alcarrizos, to interconnect with the cable car, which will be its main power source.

The interconnection tunnel of this project, which will be delivered at the beginning of 2024, will have an approximate length of 800 meters. The construction of the civil works of said tunnel will also be under the responsibility of Estrella Engineering, with vast experience in this type of work.

Once this part is completed, the electromechanical installation works will be carried out, scheduled to be completed in 10 months.

Part of the work carried out to date in the tunnel influx area ranges from complete earthworks, excavations, compacted fill for the entire lot, driving of the metal piles that will make up the entrance tunnel portal, to construction of the metallic support structure at the entrance of the tunnel (frame) and of the anchoring system of the structure to the ground.

Progress was also made with the construction of concrete piles of different diameters for the containment of surrounding structures and infrastructures, the conformation of the entrance ramp to the tunnel, the casting of the concrete slab for the entrance to the tunnel and the construction of the system. drain at its entrance.

    Details about the project

The work, in charge of the Office for the Reorganization of Transport (Opret), would be inaugurated at the beginning of the year 2024 and covers a section of 7.3 kilometers along with the construction of five stations that will form part of the Metro-Cable Car Integrated Transport System from Santo Domingo.

For the execution of the same there are more than 2,000 direct jobs, with an approximate investment of some 500 million dollars.

The new route is made up of 5 stations. This new extension of Line 2 (called 2C), will decongest traffic from Los Alcarrizos to KM 9 (María Montez Station).

All stations will be on one side of the freeway with access from the street at ground level. They are going to join a marginal road to decongest the Duarte Highway, along the entire line.

The project also contemplates the road adaptation of the roads adjacent to the marginal, to produce a better flow of vehicles.

Thanks to this initiative, road safety will be increased, user congestion at km 9 of the Duarte highway will be reduced, and with it a considerable reduction in CO2 emissions and air pollution.
