Hoban Industries owner of company Hoban TBM, Korean Tunnel Boring Machine manufacturer. Hoban TBM expertise is on Gripper TBM. Company has Korea record in longest distance of Gripper TBM excavation with over 130 kilometers. Hoban has manufactured Gripper TBM of various diameters from 2.6 meters to 11.6 meters.

Last year Hoban has advanced also into manufacturing of Shield Tunnel Boring Machines. Currently Hoban is the only Korean company which manufactures both Gripper and Shield Tunnel Boring Machines.

Currently most tunnels in Korea are excavated via NATM tunneling. In Korea percentage of TBM excavation is only 5%. This is both bad news and good news. It is bad news that Korea behind in world for TBM use. It is good news because there is big market potential for TBM usage in Korea. Korean government encourage TBM usage.

Hoban Tunnel Boring Machines used in many projects in Korea for example in  gripper TBM construction on the 5th section of GTX A line (click blue to read that article of mine). Hoban TBM also won very big contract in 2020 for the Dobongsan-Okjeong line.
